A Swiss climbing champion and photographer may be one of two foreigners stoned to death in Afghanistan at the weekend, his father told a Swiss newspaper yesterday. Elie Chevieux, 31, left in October to take pictures in Russia, Japan, India, Nepal and Afghanistan, his father told the Lausanne daily Le Matin.
"He probably died for taking one photo too many," said his father, Georges. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said it was unable to confirm the men stabbed and stoned to death in the Afghan capital were Swiss citizens. The bodies were being identified, a ministry spokesman said in Berne.
